Dating from 1976, this five-string captures the styling and substantial construction that made these early Japanese made instruments such interesting alternatives to their American counterparts.
The Artist features a maple resonator and neck, ebony fingerboard with ornate mother-of-pearl inlay. Both visually and sonically striking, it also boats quality craftsmanship and construction giving the instrument a satisfyingly substantial feel.
This example is in good used condition for its age. It has heavy fret wear and the adjustment for the tailpiece tension control has snapped off, but still the instrument still plays without fault. There is fair tarnish to the hardware, along with some scuffs and marks to the bowl consistent with its age. Importantly, there are no large or unsightly dings or damages, leaving it with plenty of vintage appeal despite its years of use.
A genuine slice of 1970s Japanese musical heritage, this Artist 5 string has clearly been played and enjoyed, and would make an interesting project for a player or collector looking for an affordable vintage with plenty of character.
