The Istanbul 30th anniversary series takes inspiration from the founding legacy of the company, the vintage K series. Over the years, Istanbul have developed cymbals for almost every genre, however the 30th anniversary goes back to their roots and is aimed at the vintage jazz world.
The 22-inch ride is truly hand made, with each finished cymbal a unique instrument. Only the most experience cymbalsmiths work on the anniversary series and hand craft the bells. Every model is inspected, played, and then signed under the bell before being released.
The ride is thin and curves gently from the small, rugged looking bell. The surface is finished with a mass of hammer marks and lathing bands to give it a truly vintage look. The stick response of the ride is woody with a sharp attack. The bell is intense and enhances the attack of the bow. The wash of the cymbal growls and roars with a complex, churning roll. The dark wash is powerful, but allows articulate playing to cut through. Crashing the cymbal delivers a dark, trashy attack with a washy decay. The cymbal effortlessly handles all levels of dynamics.
