Ibanez AZS
About the Ibanez AZS Series
The Ibanez AZS Series is a range of modern electric guitars created for players who appreciate traditional guitar styling combined with contemporary playability and performance. Taking inspiration from classic single-cutaway electric guitars, the AZS offers a distinctive interpretation of the wider Ibanez AZ concept, bringing together familiar design features with modern construction, hardware and electronics.
While Ibanez has a long-standing reputation for instruments designed for technically demanding rock and metal players, the AZS Series takes a different approach, offering a platform capable of covering everything from clean, articulate sounds and blues through to pop, funk, rock and heavier styles.
At the heart of the Ibanez AZS is a player-focused design that combines traditional single-cutaway styling with contemporary ergonomics and performance.
Comfortable neck profiles, carefully considered body shaping and easy access across the fingerboard help make the range suitable for expressive rhythm playing, intricate chord work and technically demanding lead playing alike. The wider Ibanez AZS family includes different specifications and configurations, allowing guitarists to explore this distinctive approach to electric guitar design across a range of playing styles and requirements.
What Makes the Ibanez AZS Series Different?
One of the defining characteristics of the Ibanez AZS is its combination of traditional styling and modern playability. Rather than following the familiar double-cutaway design of the wider AZ range, the AZS takes inspiration from classic single-cutaway guitars, offering a different approach to the AZ concept while retaining its emphasis on versatility, comfort and performance.
Modern, Comfortable Playability
Playability is central to the AZS design. The series combines ergonomic body shaping with neck designs intended to feel comfortable across different playing techniques. The AZS is designed to feel comfortable and responsive across a wide range of playing styles, with easy access across the neck and a balanced feel that suits both rhythm and lead playing. The combination of traditional body styling and contemporary ergonomics makes the AZS a practical choice for guitarists who appreciate the familiar feel of a single-cutaway guitar but prefer a more modern approach to playability.
Versatile Tone
The AZS Series is also designed with tonal flexibility in mind. Depending on the individual guitar, different pickup configurations and switching options can provide access to a broad palette of sounds. This versatility can make an Ibanez AZS particularly appealing to guitarists who enjoy the character of traditional electric guitar tones but also want the flexibility to explore different musical styles. From clean, articulate sounds and blues through to pop, funk, rock and heavier music, the AZS offers a flexible platform that can accommodate a variety of musical requirements.
Player-Focused Design
Ibanez has placed considerable emphasis on making the AZS comfortable and practical for the player. Details such as the body contours, neck heel and overall balance are designed to contribute to an instrument that feels natural whether you're practising at home, recording or performing live.
The AZS combines its distinctive single-cutaway design with the modern playing comfort associated with the wider AZ family, making it a particularly appealing option for guitarists who value both traditional styling and contemporary performance.
A Range of Specifications
Individual AZS guitars can vary considerably in their construction, electronics, hardware, finishes and other specifications. This gives players the opportunity to choose an AZS based on the features that matter most to them rather than having every guitar in the range follow exactly the same formula.
Different models can offer their own combinations of pickups, bridge designs and hardware, allowing guitarists to find an instrument that suits their preferred playing style and tonal requirements.
For exact details, always check the specifications listed on the individual guitar before making your choice.
Understanding the Ibanez AZS Range

Who Is the Ibanez AZS Series For?
The Ibanez AZS Series is particularly well suited to guitarists who appreciate traditional single-cutaway electric guitars but want a modern approach to comfort, playability and performance.
Players working across blues, pop, funk, rock and fusion can benefit from the range's combination of familiar styling and tonal flexibility, while selected AZS configurations are equally capable of handling heavier and more technically demanding styles.
The series can also appeal to guitarists coming from different backgrounds. Players accustomed to traditional single-cutaway electric guitars may appreciate the familiar overall format combined with a more contemporary approach to ergonomics and performance. Existing Ibanez players, meanwhile, can enjoy the brand's characteristic emphasis on comfortable necks, upper-fret access and technical playability in a distinctive single-cutaway design. The Ibanez AZS is a suitable choice for players who want a modern electric guitar with traditional styling that can handle a broad range of musical situations, including studio work, live performance and everyday playing.
Choosing an Ibanez AZS Guitar
When choosing an Ibanez AZS guitar, it is worth comparing the features that matter most to your playing style, including pickup configuration, bridge type, hardware and overall specification. Some models place greater emphasis on traditional single-coil tones, while others combine different pickup types to provide additional tonal flexibility. As specifications can vary across the AZS range, checking the individual product details will help you find the model that best matches your preferences, requirements and budget.
