Description
The real deal from ’63.
A true survivor from the golden age of Fender basses, this 1963 Precision Bass has the scars, changes and character that only six decades of life can bring.
This is a very different proposition from a pristine vintage example. It has obvious wear and tear throughout, with the finish and hardware bearing plenty of honest evidence of its long life. The result is a bass with a genuinely aged appearance and plenty of vintage character. This has the genuine character that custom shop recreation try so meticulously to recreate.
The original electronics are no longer present, with the pickup and controls having been replaced. The truss rod also appears to be ineffective, so this should be taken into consideration by anyone looking for a vintage instrument to put straight into regular playing service. It is therefore perhaps best suited to someone who appreciates the history and character of an early-‘60s Precision and is comfortable with its modifications and current condition with possible further investment
Despite its imperfections, there is something undeniably compelling about a six-decade-old Precision Bass. The model helped establish the electric bass as we know it and a genuine 1963 example carries a place in that history that a modern example simply cannot replicate.
It comes supplied in a simple gig bag. The original case is unaccounted for.
This is vintage Fender with plenty of stories written into it and an opportunity for the collector, restorer or player looking for an authentic piece of early 60s Fender history.
