Description

Condition: Excellent with light signs of use. Hotcovers cover included.

Tony Bruno designed and constructed a hand wired prototype chassis for the TB18C1 amplifier and turned it over to Vox. The Bruno design for the TB18C1 incorporated two 12AX7 and two 6V6 tubes. Using the hand built Bruno prototype as a standard and tonal reference point, Vox developed a printed circuit board version of the amplifier suitable for mass production. Vox sent one of the printed circuit board versions of the amp back to Bruno for further tonal tweaking. Using his expert ears and tonal intuition, Bruno made further adjustments to the circuit. The amp was approved for production at Vox only after Tony Bruno was completely satisfied with its performance.

Cabinet
The Vox/Bruno TB18C1 cabinet used styling reminiscent of 1950s era tweed amps made in Fullerton CA. It had a plywood top, bottom and sides. The baffle and vented solid back were made of MDF.

The cabinet was covered in traditional black “basket weave” vinyl. Silver piping replaced the gold piping normally found on Vox amps. The grill cloth was unique to the Bruno amp series. It featured a black background with monochromatic silver/gray diamonds.

Control Panel
The control panel featured rotary volume, treble, middle, bass, reverb and master volume controls along with switches for mid boost, dark, and power. An art deco font was used for the panel nomenclature.

Speaker
The Vox/Bruno TB18C1 came equipped with one 12 inch, 16 ohm Celestion G12-65 speaker.

What Does It Sound Like?
The tone of the Vox/Bruno TB18C1 is unique when compared to any other Vox amp. The amp has more clean headroom than traditional Vox amps in this power range, such as the AC15C1. Country pickers will appreciate this increased headroom. The TB18C1 also has more low end than a traditional Vox amp. The added bass response comes from a combination of 6V6 output tubes, a Celestion G12-65 speaker and the vented closed back. When overdriven, the TB18C1 is darker in tone than the typical Vox AC series amp, making it ideal for blues players.

The digital reverb in the TB18C1 does an excellent job of simulating natural room reverb.

Dimensions
The TB18C1 measures 23.15" wide, 21.73" tall, 10.12" deep and weighs 64 pounds.
