An Advanced Portable Production Solution
Together with the included Cubase AI and Cubasis LE software, the UR22mkII audio and MIDI interface is a fully-fledged mobile recording studio. Offering easy and stable connection to PC or Mac computers, the MKII version now adds pro-level recording for iPad with the CC Mode and external power input. The UR22mkII offers total mobility, ultra-solid build quality and incredible sound characteristics for its price class, covering all aspects of recording and production in small studio environments as well as mobile production situations.
Connect To Cubase, Or Directly To Any DAW
UR22mkII is compatible with all audio editing, mastering and music production software that support the ASIO, Core Audio or WDM standards. Installing the driver is very simple, with an assistant to guide you through every step of the process. With installation complete, the UR22mkII now seamlessly integrates into your favourite DAW, putting its flexible I/O options at your disposal.
Cubase owners will benefit from additional features, such as the auto-setup functionality, which enables the complete I/O setup to be handled directly from within Cubase. Your UR22mkII is detected automatically by Cubase and embedded into your production environment.
UR22mkII includes Cubase AI, a lean version of Steinberg's advanced music production system. Based on the same core technologies as Steinberg's highly acclaimed Cubase DAW, the AI version offers a comprehensive feature set for composing, recording, editing and mixing. Run it together with the UR22mkII audio interface and you get a one-stop solution for recording music in studio quality.
With full iPad connectivity via the CC Mode and external power input, the UR22mkII combines with the included Cubasis LE software — a streamlined version of the highly acclaimed Cubasis iOS app — to form a full-on mobile recording and production solution.
The D-PRE: Beyond Precision
The virtues of the Yamaha-designed D-PRE have been sung by industry veterans and trade press alike since the introduction of this class-leading preamp. A sumptuously detailed high-end, immaculate dynamic response and a rich, rounded low-end sound are the hallmarks of this very special preamp. The UR22mkII features two D-PRE preamps, each offering stellar recording quality unmatched in this price class. And to faithfully capture and replay the warm, transparent sound of the D-PRE, the UR22mkII features AD and DA conversion stages with up to 24-bit, 192 kHz resolution.
Compact Without Compromises
With UR22mkII, you're ready for a huge range of recording and production scenarios, even when you're on the move. Record vocals, guitars and other audio equipment with up to two audio channels in pristine 24/192 quality while simultaneously recording MIDI signals. And you won't have to carry it everywhere on a silk cushion: its sturdy construction and steel casing means the UR22mkII can withstand the rough and tumble of mobile music production. On tour, at home, on stage, or at your rehearsal space: take your UR22mkII with you wherever you need ultra-reliable recording and first-rate sound.
The UR22mkII turns your iPad into a full-on professional music production platform. Connect to your iPad with CC Mode using either the Camera Connection Kit or Lightning to USB Camera Adapter. The power input socket supplies your UR22mkII with the electrical voltage needed to run professional equipment such as condenser microphones requiring +48 V phantom power by letting you plug in a USB power adapter or a USB battery pack.

|This unit is extremely well made and it installed without any issues. I am very happy with my choice of audio interface.|

This is a fabulous, sturdy, audio interface! The only problem is that I realise how bad some of my other audio devices were, since the sound on the UR22 MK2 is so brilliant!Easy to use, and, even with a simple microphone and line in from a guitar,my daw and levels never sounded better.I've always struggled with levels for vocals and guitar, but they both produce crystal clear sound now.I actually hadn't realise how good the sound on my old Yamaha RM1X was, until I've put it through the UR22.A massive difference, believe me.It's gone from a groovebox with some good sounds to a sonic weapon with pin sharp clarity. It's great to find sound quality this good. There are amp simulators on my daws which sounded too distorted,no matter what I did -yet are now perfect through this.My Roland TB3,which already sounded great, has an extra clear bass tone, rich, fat and bouncy through the UR22.I was previously getting the sound through the TB3's usb cable to my DAW,but this is definitely richer.
Anyway, take it from me,an amateur with loads of midi gear, modules and synths-buy one.Even just starting out you'll save a ton of hassle and money by not buying sub-standard audio gear.I'll probably buy another one myself, and for under a hundred pound it's well worth it.I have an 8 channel mixer, which has a chunky power lead,as well as USB connection, but it can be a hassle to get out and plug in etc,but the UR22 is a lot handier, just the USB straight to PC.
I was a little bit confused downloading the free Cubase software(something to do with the license process) but got that sorted after an hour or so.It's a high level daw,so it's a very good bonus!
I also didn't mention the midi part of the UR22-which works fantastically, routing from analog to analog easily, and also from my daw to other gear...which not all my interfaces have done.
Overall,an easy and solid 10/10.
Regular punter, happy to take time to write this review for great piece of equipment.
|Great so far! It is exactly suited to my needs, I appreciate the expert advice from Richard to find the right product for me.|

A very good product if you need to record a vocal mic, instrument and perhaps a MIDI keyboard simultaneously to a computer to record. USB powered so no extra power supply needed when connected to a computer with a suitably powered USB socket. Can also be used with an iPad, but needs to be powered in such circumstances. USB power can be connected via a micro-USB socket, or if using the Lightning- USB Camera connector on an iPad, the power can be connected to the lightning connector on that.
Microphone gain is fairly low - for recording spoken voice seems to need to be at or close to maximum gain, but if used with a singer then probably the dynamic range would require a lower setting.
Comes with licence codes for Cubase AI which provides decent digital audio workstation capability (although is quite a steep learning curve). Will work with other DAW software as well (at least on my Mac). Also unlocks a version of Cubasis for the iPAD which also provides recording capability. With a portable battery power source provides a completely portable recording capability.
Device is quite heavy, but on the other hand is solidly built with a metal enclosure that is likely to protect against knocks and bangs.
