Yet another announcement from the Focusrite camp and another addition to their steadily growing Scarlett range of high-quality USB 2.0 interfaces. The Scarlett 18i20 is designed to sit at the heart of a modern recording studio and as such it features enough inputs and outputs to record and mix a full band! In fact, the 18i20 offers a total of 18 potential inputs and 20 potential outputs, which include 2 analogue mic/line/instrument inputs, 6 analogue mic/line inputs and 10 analogue line outputs!

Following on from Focusrite's announcement of the Scarlett Studio yesterday (a fantastic core recording package for just £199, which includes an interface, mic, headphones, cables and software, all for just £199), we've created a fun little game of spot the difference!

Today Focusrite have announced the Scarlett 2i4, a slightly larger version of the popular 2i2, featuring 4 line outputs plus MIDI I/O, making it ideal for use as either a studio or compact DJ interface.

When I bought my first ever audio interface, I forked out £99 for a 2-in, 2-out device with minimal features, average sounding preamps, USB 1.1 connectivity and a copy of Cubase LE. At the time, this seemed like a bargain to me, but things have changed since then. In fact, it wasn’t until I became introduced to the Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 that I realised just how much things had changed! For only £20 more (at the time of writing), Focusrite are offering a device with similar features, but that makes use of high-speed USB 2.0 connectivity, includes two of Focusrite’s renowned preamps and comes bundled with four top-quality plug-ins and Ableton Live Lite 8! To me, this seems like an absolute bargain and with prices like this, it definitely pushes the older USB 1.1 protocol closer towards extinction.
