The Novation Launchpad S is an extremely popular studio and performance device, allowing you to get hands on with various aspects of software such as Ableton and FL Studio. Using a multi-coloured matrix design, the Launchpad allows you to launch clips, adjust track levels, pan positions, send levels and much more.
However, third party developers have also taken it upon themselves to create freely downloadable patches that can unlock a number of awesome hidden features of the Launchpad. One such patch is called Launchpad95 (CLICK HERE for more information or to download it). Check it out in the video below...
We were recently joined by Chris from Novation, who gave us an in-depth demonstration of the Novation Launch Control. Check it out in the video below.
The Launch Control is a compact MIDI controller, which is designed to work with software such as Ableton and FL Studio. It features 16 assignable dials and 8 launchpads, allowing you to launch clips, toggle effects, control your mixer and get hands-on with your instruments and effects. Although the Launch Control can work as a standalone piece of kit (if connected to your computer), it is also the perfect partner for any Launchpad, allowing you to expand the hands-on experience for more intricate performances.
M4SONIC shot to fame through Youtube, when he began uploading videos of his out-of-this world performances with the Novation Launchpad. In fact, many of his compositions actually feature more than one Launchpad, where he uses one hand to trigger drum clips and the other to play melodic riffs.
After racking up millions of views, M4SONIC's videos catapulted him into the limelight and he's now getting booked to play sell-out gigs, as well as releasing his own tracks.
For this competition, M4SONIC (in association with Novation) is giving you the chance to remix his track, Virus, using the FREE Novation Launchpad App. Two winners will each bag a Launchpad S and Launch Control combo, but that's not all, as one of these winners will also be crowned the overall champion and get a 1 hour masterclass with M4SONIC!
We recently came across this excellent video, which showcases the main features of the Novation Launchpad Mini, Launch Control and Launchkey Mini, whilst also demonstrating how they can be used together. The video comes courtesy of MojaxxVDJ and is well worth a watch if you're wanting to find out more about any of these products.
Novation recently spoke to Keith Harris, a multi-instrumentalist who tours with acts such as will.i.am, Backstreet Boys and Cee Lo Green in the capacity of Musical Director. In this short interview, he explains how the Launchkey 25 and Launchpad play a major role in the show, in combination with a computer running Ableton software.
However, it's not just the stage where Keith relies on Novation; his studio also features SL MkII and Impulse controller keyboards and a MiniNova synthesiser.
Check out this short video showing how the Novation Launchpad Mini can be hooked up to an iPad running the FREE Launchpad App, in order to create a hands-on, unique performance. Remember that the Launchpad App now allows you to import your own samples, as well as featuring a library of sounds when you download it.
To hook a Launchpad Mini (or Launchpad S) up to your iPad, simply purchase the relevant adapter (available separately from the Apple store), plug it in and start playing!
Although it can be used as a standalone controller, the Novation Launch Control was also created to be the ideal partner for existing Launchpad owners. The Launch Control provides you with 16 dials, 8 additional tri-colour launch pads, plus navigation buttons. You can use the controls of the Launch Control to adjust track levels, instrument and effect parameters, pan positions and more.
Although the Launch Control is designed to work with Ableton software (it comes with Ableton Live Lite), it is also compatible with other music production programs such as FL Studio.
Check out the video below to see an example of how the Launch Control can be used with a Launchpad S to create exciting live performances.
Novation's hugely popular FREE Launchpad iPad App has now been updated, with a number of bug fixes and a brand new Audio Import function! This is something that users have been asking for since the release of the Launchpad App and it now means that you aren't limited by the sounds that come with it. If you've got some of your own WAV or AIFF samples and loops then you can now import them into the App using Dropbox (free Dropbox account required), assign them to pads of your choice and then trigger them with the App. The Launchpad App also features time-stretching so that all your loops will stay in perfect time with each other.
