The guitar industry is facing a little bit of a problem... I'm not talking Gibson failures or the fact there seems to be less and less guitar heroes making it to the big time like they did during the 50s/60s/70s etc. What I'm talking about wood, or lack of it.

Self explanatory title really! Get your hands on one before someone else does! The Tempest is a unique analogue drum machine, capable of producing twisted percussive synth sounds like nothing else can! It features 16 backlit pads, a number of dials and buttons and two pressure and velocity sensitive control pads. However, the real highlight of the Tempest is most definitely its sounds. Check out the video below for an example (jump to 2:07 to hear them!):

Wow… what a product to be asked to play with… out of all the reviews that I have ever done before, this has got to be the highlight. Now, up until last month I hadn’t even heard of the Dave Smith Poly Evolver! In fact, it only came to my attention when I was recently searching through our product list for a true analogue synth keyboard - I still dream that one day I will have the budget to add a fully featured one to my home-studio set-up! For now I will just make do with the Korg Monotribe though, which incidentally is still extremely fun and can't be sniffed at at less then £200 for some true analogue goodness!
Posted on October 5, 2011 by Joe StachowiakIt's the news that many of us have been waiting for ever since it was announced at NAMM 2011... the Tempest from Dave Smith Instruments is finally on its way! Now, the Tempest is described as an analogue drum machine, although in reality it is so much more than this. In fact, even Dave Smith Instruments admit that describing the Tempest in words is a difficult task. This is probably why they have realised a couple of new videos... beacuse audio and video goes a lot further to describing the Tempest than words ever can!

DAVE SMITH INSTRUMENTS MOPHO - INTRODUCTION
If there is one category of synthesiser which is as popular now as it has ever been, it’s the Analogue Synth, although as any synth-head knows, 'Analogue' doesn’t always mean 'Analogue', as there are often contemporary twists on the theme which can interfere with the sonic form. So when I heard that Dave Smith, the legendary synth designer who gave us the equally legendary Prophet 5, was back in the business of making synths, I was exceptionally keen to find out more.
