Hello... I'm Marc... and I'm a gear junky...! I've been playing the guitar and gigging in various bands for many years and in 2012 I got myself a job at Absolute Music to feed my habit and share my passion and knowledge of the products that I know and love. I'm going to use my blog to write short reviews of some of my favourite products to hopefully help others in their quest for finding the right gear for their needs and budget.
Here's a quote that we're very proud to share as it comes from President of Electro-Harmonix and living legend Mike Matthews:
"Absolute Music is one of the BEST Electro-Harmonix dealers in the whole world."
Wow! Mike, you've made us blush! And we're being 100% truthful when we say that we think that Electro-Harmonix make some of the BEST pedals in the whole world too! Their range is simply immense! Can everyone feel the love here?!!
James Tyler Variax guitars aren't your average electric guitar. Their built-in modelling technology means that they can sound like a range of classic electric guitars and you can switch between different tunings with the turn of a dial, as demonstrated in this video with a JTV59P. This makes JTV guitars an ideal studio and live performance instrument, for anyone that requires to switch guitar sounds and tunings but does not have the budget or desire to own multiple different guitars.
An exciting announcement from our guitar department now... we've recently had our first delivery of genuine Japanese ESP guitars, including a super-rare Eclipse-I CTM in Vintage White. This is a UK exclusive and only one of two in the whole world!
Please note that although we try to upload all new guitars onto our website as quickly as possible, there may be some that we have not got round to yet so please pop into our store or give us a call on 01202 597180 to discuss our full range.

From now until 3pm CET (Central European Time) on Friday 17th May 2013, you can grab 9 Maschine expansions for just €99!!! Each expansion is usually €49 each so this equates to a monumental saving! There is a countdown clock on the Native Instruments website indicating when this offer ends so get in there before it hits 'zero' if you want to take advantage of it!
The Maschine Mk2 is a groove production station, modelled on the design of classic samplers. However, its hybrid functionality, which makes use of your computer's processing power, makes it far more flexible and powerful than any fully-hardware equivalent. It's for this reason that Maschine has been adopted by a number of professional artists all over the world, offering an intuitive way to build up beats and whole songs.
A heads-up to those that haven't already noticed - we've now got the new Soundcraft Si Expression digital live consoles in stock and available to buy! This new range of mixers is certainly set to prick the interest of many live studio engineer as they provide digital mixing quality that was previously only within the budget of large professional live sound companies.
Soundcraft Si Expression mixers (available in 16, 24 and 32 channel models) make use of the latest DSP technology and building techniques to deliver new and extremely powerful live solutions. Soundcraft consoles are already renowned in the live sound industry, with a reputation for user-friendly design and exceptional sound quality. Luckily for us (and you!), Si Expression mixers are no different.
With Absolute Music having recently added ESP guitars to its lineup, now would perhaps seem like a good time to write an article on this much revered Japanese brand. ESP are possibly best known to the Heavy Metal crowd as they are one of the most respected & lusted after brands within this genre. Following Fender's Jackson buyout, they are now one of the few remaining truly independent modern guitar brands & the loyalty of their fan base is fierce; however, their roots run deep & to get the full story we have to go back further than you would think...
On Saturday 27th April, our friend Lex McKee was kind enough to organise a live gig in our café with Alan Hunter and Johnny Moore as the Alan Hunter Duo. He captured some snippets of the show and sent us the links so that anyone who missed it could enjoy the music and those that saw it could re-live some of the highlights. Check out the videos below!
If you are or know an artist/band that would like to perform in our café, feel free to call our studios on 01202 572948 for more information on how to book a gig.
For information on booking the Alan Hunter Duo, please e-mail Lex McKee on [email protected].
First there was the Apogee Duet... then came the Focusrite Forte! Two compact interfaces with very similar designs, detailed OLED monitoring and both boasting extremely high-quality converters and microphone preamps. But, with products of such similar specs, which do you go for?
To help solve this conundrum, the guys at Pro Tools Expert have made an extremely handy comparison video, where they discuss the physical and practical differences between the interfaces and even provide downloadable stems so that you can hear recordings from each and decide which you prefer for yourself. Very handy indeed!
If, like us, you're itching to get your hands on a brand new Novation Bass Station II analogue synthesiser when it is released, then you'll probably want to check out this extremely in-depth demo video from Sonicstate to whet your appetite! This video covers pretty much everything you need to know about that Bass Station II and includes plenty of sound-demos.
