  • KORG WAVEDRUM MINI PREVIEW

Posted on April 13, 2011 by Joe Stachowiak

I’ve got to say that Korg are really on a roll at the moment! At NAMM 2011 they brought out the Kronos, which in my opinion blew all the other products out of the water (with the exception of the Dave Smith Instruments Tempest, which I also thought was REALLY cool)! And now at MusikMesse, they seem to be following a similar trend! Of course, they’ve not done anything in the same monstrous league as the mighty Kronos, but once again they have released some of (if not THE) most exciting products of the show! I thought the Monotribe was a brilliant little idea! It’s not one of those products that is going to change the scene, but it does offer something a little bit different and unique compared to what is currently on the market, and it also sounds great, which always helps! Click here to read my Korg Monotribe review.

  • KORG MONOTRIBE PREVIEW

Posted on April 12, 2011 by Joe Stachowiak

What do you get if you lock a Korg Monotron and a Korg Electribe in a romantic, candlelit Honeymoon suite in an expensive Paris hotel? Yes, that’s right… absolutely nothing… apart from your Monotron and Electribe back, assuming one of the candles didn’t blow over and set fire to the curtains… in which case you will just receive a few useless ashes and a hefty bill from the hotel for the room that you destroyed with your carelessness! So, that’s probably why the clever team at Korg decided not to take this approach, as it is highly unlikely that a burnt-out Monotron and Electribe would have caused a stir at this years MusikMesse festival. Instead, what they decided to do was to take some of the technology from the Monotron and some of the technology from the Electribe, and combine them to create a completely new product called the Electotron!…. oh, wait a second, no…. what they decided to do was to take some of the technology from the Monotron and some of the technology from the Electribe, and combine them to create a completely new product called the Monotribe! That’s better!

  • M-AUDIO VENOM REVIEW - TONY LONG

Posted on April 11, 2011 by Tony Long

You can read more reviews like this, along with Tony's productions at his personal site -> Tony Long Music.

    M-AUDIO VENOM - INTRODUCTION

M-Audio are a company who design and import a range of audio products such as DAW interfaces, monitors, mics, MIDI controllers, Digital Pianos and DJ software and controllers. They are a business unit of Avid Technology and were formerly Midiman. They mainly manufacture in China but have independent offices in the UK, USA, Canada, Japan and France. At NAMM 2011 they announced a small affordable Virtual Analogue Synth called The Venom which no doubt will be in direct competition with Roland's GAIA Synth and the new Novation Ultranova and comes with a similar price tag! M-Audio are claiming that the Venom (unlike the competition) has an aggressive new unique sound that will make it stand out from the rest, with the warmth of the Classic Analogue keyboards combined with some cool modern digital processing. It is the first-ever M-Audio hardware synthesiser, and with the exception of the price, it will no doubt draw some comparisons with the range of Access Virus Synths.

  • WHAT IS VRM?

Posted on April 1, 2011 by Joe Stachowiak

Focusrite VRM BoxWhat Is VRM? VRM (Virtual Reference Monitoring) technology basically allows you to listen to your music through a pair of heaphones, but hear it as if the sound were coming from a pair of speakers in front of you! Why would you want to do this? You may not have the money for an expensive pair of studio monitors... or, you may find yourself in a situation where blasting out loud music at all hours of the day and night is not possible (maybe you have a less than sympathetic neighbour, a less than sympathetic partner, or a new born baby who seems unappreciative of all the noise coming from the spare room, and rudely insists on bawling whilst you try to perfect your mixes!)... or maybe you do a lot of your mixing on a laptop, away from your main studio... or perhaps it's for a completely different reason altogether... but I'm assuming that if you are reading this then you probably have a good reason to want to mix through headphones! • MOOG POLYTHEREMIN

Posted on April 1, 2011 by Joe Stachowiak

Introduced in 1928, the Theremin is one of the earliest and most widely known electronic instruments. Played by artists manipulating the pitch and volume of invisible sound waves radiated from a single antenna with their hands, Theremin music has distinguished hit records from such diverse artists as The Beach Boys, Led Zeppelin Clara Rockmore and Linkin Park.
