PreSonus AudioBoxMore news of some excellent new USB 2.0 interfaces, this time from PreSonus with their brand new AudioBox VSL range. The AudioBox VSL range features three different models of interface, the PreSonus AudioBox 22VSL, the PreSonus AudioBox 44VSL and the PreSonus AudioBox 1818VSL. These USB 2.0 audio interfaces feature Virtual StudioLive (VSL) technology: EQ, dynamics, reverb and delay based on those of the exceptionally popular PreSonus StudioLive range of digital mixers, but running on a connected computer – surprisingly this processing is able to operate with latencies so low as to compare to hardware solutions, allowing these interfaces to be as useful at on-stage as they are in the studio. AudioBox VSL interfaces can be thought of as rack-mount StudioLive mixers, and additionally they all ship with the award-winning Studio One Artist DAW for instant plug-and-play recording!

Stuck between a digital rock and an analogue hard place? Let Jono Buchanan and Andy Legg help you out of it...

Before the days of FireWire and USB-based DAW recording, the word ‘digital’ equated to ‘expensive’ and we were all charged a premium for digitally controlled signal paths and other digital features. However, over the years the cost of technology has fallen quickly so digital hardware is now more affordable than ever. Nevertheless, is a digital mixer right for your needs and budget? Well, hopefully that’s what the next three pages will help you to decide!

Audio Technica ATH-M50 HeadphonesI’ve recently been treated to some absolutely stonking top-end products to review, so when my latest list of review products came through and I saw that the Audio Technica ATH-M50 headphones were on there, I was a little disappointed! For one, I already own a pair so it is nothing new for me to try and for another… what the hell happened to all those expensive mixers and DAW controllers that I had got so used to reviewing over the last couple of months?!! Ha! Well, at least this review should be fairly straight forward as I use these cans pretty much everyday and for very good reason…
