In our opinion, this is one of the most exciting announcements of NAMM 2013 and amazingly, it's FREE! TC Electronic have announced that they will be releasing TonePrint Editor software for Mac and PC, which will essentially allow you to create your own custom pedal if you own a TC Electronic TonePrint pedal. To understand just how cool this is, we will begin by giving you a quick summary of what TonePrint is.
TonePrint is a technology that essentially allows a single pedal (or product) to act as a number of custom variations of itself. For example, if you have a TonePrint delay pedal, you can load in different TonePrint presets to make the pedal act like a different custom delay effect. You can do this by plugging in your TonePrint pedal to your computer via USB and selecting your preferred TonePrint preset from the online library, or you can use your iPhone or Android mobile phone to beam your selected preset into the pedal though your guitar's pickup! What's more is that you can switch TonePrint presets as many times a you like, choosing a different TonePrint for a different situation.
Originally all TonePrint presets were designed by industry professionals. So, for example, you could turn your TonePrint chorus pedal into a custom James 'Munky' Shaffer (from Korn) pedal, then swap to a John Petrucci (from Dream Theater) custom chorus pedal and then change to a Joe Perry (of Aerosmith fame) custom chorus! There are loads of artists and presets to choose from in the TonePrint library and all TonePrints are specific to the pedal type (chorus, delay, reverb, flanger, vibrato, etc.).
However, the TonePrint Editor now extends this flexibility, giving you access to the inner workings of the pedal and allowing you to create your own TonePrints. This means that you can build up a library of your own presets and essentially create your own custom effect pedals! Wow!
The TonePrint Editor provides a simple software interface for customising your pedal(s). Within the software you can tweak deep effect parameters that aren't available as hardware controls on the pedal unit, you can add your own complex modulations, you can customise what the knobs on the pedal do and what their range is and you can listen to the changes as you make them on the software so that everything can be calculated to produce the perfect pedal for your needs. Once you're happy, simply click the 'Store to Pedal' button and get playing or creating another custom pedal!
If you're a guitar player that desires their own custom pedal and their own unique sound, then all you need is a TC Electronic TonePrint pedal and the free TonePrint Editor.
