Roland CD-2U

Roland have today announced two brand new recorders - the CD-2u SD/CD recorder and the SD-2u SD recorder. Both are designed to be easy to use and operate as standalone units, allowing portable 2-track recording straight to CD-R/CDRW or SD/SDHC cards. Apart from the inclusion of a CD drive on the CD-2u, both recorders share common features and benefit from Roland's innovative technology.

Roland CD-2U

Both units have built-in stereo microphones and a speaker system for instant playback, multiple inputs for connecting external devices (two XLR/TRS combo jacks with phantom power, Plug In Power mic jack and stereo RCA LINE IN jacks) and independent speed/pitch playback control. Other great features include an Enhanced Centre Cancel function that removes the centre-panned parts of pre-recorded music and a new Centre Focus feature that isolates vocals and instruments for learning, and overdubbing modes.

Roland SD-2u

The CD-2u and SD-2u are simple to use with their Easy Guide feature that provides clear onscreen instructions that will guide you through the various operations. A built-in tuner and metronome keep you in time and in tune, and if only recording to SD card, battery operation will allow true portable recording and playback, while the included wireless remote control allows for convenient operation.

Aimed at musicians, educators and students, these great little recorders have many applications including music practice and learning, learning languages, transcribing spoken word, karaoke and backing tracks, and of course rehearsal recording and song sketching. With Roland's simple-to-use features the CD-2u and SD-2u will be ideal for anyone looking for high quality stereo recording solution with the minimum of fuss.

  • Prash says:

    1. Can the SD2U record Guitars running through an effects processor?

    2. If I connect my MOTU 828 MK3 audio interface outputs to the SD2U, would I be able to record into the unit?

    3. What is the sample rate recorded on the SD card? Is it 24bit 44.1 or 16 bit 44.1?

    Thanks Prash

  • Hi Prash,

    In answer to your questions:

    1. The SD-2U does not have dedicated high-impedance inputs for recording electric guitars, but if your effects processor has line level outputs, then this will be fine, as you can connect the line outputs of the effects processor to the line inputs of the SD-2U.

    2. Yes. Similarly, to the previous answer, you can connect the line outputs of the interface to the line inputs of the SD-2U to achieve this. You will need the interface attached to your computer for this to work though.

    3. The SD-2U only supports 44.1kHz/16-bit audio when recording to SD card.
