PRESONUS ANNOUNCE TWO NEW MONITOR SERIES': SCEPTRE & ERIS

At the NAMM 2013 industry show in California, PreSonus have announced two new series' of professional studio monitors. The first is the Eris series and the second is the Sceptre series. Read on to find out more about these new two-way monitors...
PreSonus Eris monitors offer a fantastic affordable home-studio solution, providing a detailed sonic image, allowing you to get the best out of your mixes even if you've not got the world's biggest wallet!
PreSonus Eris monitors come in two different models.The Eris E5 is the smallest of the two, so is perfect for studios where space is an issue. Each monitor features a 5.25 inch Kevlar LFE driver powered by a 45W built-in amp and a 1 inch silk-dome tweeter with its own 35W amp. Pumping out 102 dB SPL peak and with a frequency range of 64Hz to 22kHz, the Eris E5 is certainly impressive for a speaker that measures only 178 x 260 x 195 mm.

However, if you require more bass and more power then you may want to check out the Presonus Eris E8. The E8 features a larger 8 inch low frequency driver driven by a 75 Watt Class AB amplifier, which can thump out bass down to 45Hz! It also features a slightly larger 1.25 inch tweeter (compared to the E5 model), driven by a more powerful 65 Watt Class AB amplifier. All this combined allows the PreSonus Eris E8 to deliver up to 105 dB SPL peak.
Both Eris models feature a selection of connection options, so whether you're using balanced jack, XLR or RCA cables, you'll have no problems hooking up to them! They also feature a number of controls for tuning the speaker to your own mixing environment. With the Eris monitors you get an Input Gain control and three EQ controls (High, Mid and Low Cutoff). The Low Cutoff control is especially handy if you want to incorporate a sub woofer into your setup. Eris monitors also have a three-position Acoustic Space switch, which controls a second-order low-shelving filter. This cuts the level of all frequencies below 800Hz by either -2 or -4dB, which is great for compensating for an effect that can occur when speakers are placed too near a wall or corner.
Ok, moving onto PreSonus' Sceptre monitors now, which employ a special CoActual design. Just look at them and you'll notice that there's something unusual compared to standard speakers! PreSonus claim that this design helps bring out sonic nuances that cannot be achieved with standard monitor designs. The design of PreSonus Sceptre monitors makes use of a 32-bit, 96kHz dual-core processor running Fulcrum Acoustic TQ Temporal Equalization Technology.
PreSonus Sceptre monitors employ a coaxial design, which ensures that sounds of different frequencies emanate from the same point, more accurately mimicking real life situations. After all, when you speak, the lower pitches don't come out of your mouth and the higher pitches from your forehead! Everything comes from the same point, which provides a constant acoustic centre and a symmetrical dispersion pattern.

Creating an affordable coaxial speaker requires huge amounts of DSP and a sophisticated transducer design. In the past this has meant that only top-end studios could afford them, but now PreSonus bring the coaxial design to the home-studio market with their Sceptre monitors thanks to Fulcrum Acoutic's technology.
PreSonus Sceptre monitors will be available in two models. The Sceptre S6 is the smallest, but still provides a 6.5 inch low/mid frequency driver, whereas the Sceptre S8 features a larger 8 inch low/mid driver for extended bass. Both also have a 1 inch horn-loaded, high-frequency transducer, which is built into the coaxial design and a front-firing acoustic port. Each transducer of the Sceptre is powered by a 90W RMS Class D power amp with an internal heat sink.
The onboard DSP of Sceptre monitors provides plenty of user-adjustable parameters to tune the speakers to your environment and get the best out of them. There is also a four-position Acoustic Space switch controlling a second-order filter at 100Hz.
