NEW TASCAM INTERFACES WITH ON-BOARD DIGITAL MIXERS: THE US-322 & US-366

Tascam have announced two new audio interfaces at NAMM 2013: the US-322 and US-366. Both of these USB 2.0 interfaces feature high-quality HDDA mic preamps, an on-board DSP mixer and a sleek aluminium body. If you're after a compact audio interface and do not require MIDI connections then one of these interfaces may well suit your needs. Let's take a look at both of them in a little more detail...
First up is the Tascam US-322, which can record audio up to 24-bit/192kHz. Consider that CD quality is 16-bit/44.1kHz and that should give you some sort of idea of the recording quality of this thing!
The Tascam US-322 features two XLR and 1/4" TRS jack inputs (mic/line) and input 1 can also be switched to Hi-Z mode to accept an electric guitar or bass signal. The US-322 provides phantom power for use with condenser mics as well as dial controls for setting input levels independently, a monitor mix dial for setting the balance between your recording signal(s) and computer's sound, an independent headphone volume dial and a large main output dial. The US-322 also has two TRS balanced outputs and two RCA analogue unbalanced outputs.

One of the most exciting features of the Tascam US-322 is the onboard digital mixer, which provides two different modes of operation (Muli-Track and Stereo Mix mode). This onboard mixer features onboard effects including compression, 3-band EQ and reverb, so you don't need to put excess burden on your computer's CPU when running them. While recording you can use any input effect on any input signal and the reverb on any monitoring signal, which is great if for example, you are a vocalist that likes to monitor in headphones with a bit of reverb. Handily you can also recall your DSP mixer with the click of a single button!
The Tascam US-322 is USB bus-powered, which makes it great for mobile recording and it comes with Cubase LE6 software, so all you need to add is a computer and some recording equipment and you're away!
And the Tascam US-366? Well, that has all the features and functionality of the US-322, but adds more on top!

Firstly, the Tascam US-366 can record up to an increased quality of 192kHz. Secondly, it features two additional line connections, which can be switched between input or output modes (using a switch on the bottom of the unit). It also features coaxial and optical digital inputs and outputs, which actually provides a total of either 6 inputs or 6 outputs maximum depending on how you have it set up.
The final advantage of the Tascam US-366 over the US-322 is that it is compatible with the Tascam RC-3F footswitch, allowing for hands-free operation if required.
