  • QSC KW SPEAKERS

Posted on March 28, 2011 by Joe Stachowiak

We were so impressed with QSC’s K series speakers that we immediately pre-ordered the new KW series, so here’s an exclusive first look at them…

When we reviewed the K-series PA speakers from QSC a couple of issues ago (in our Absolute Music brochure), we were blown away, so much so that we installed them on our live stage and added them to our Hire Department stock. When we heard about the new KW series that was to follow, we put in an advance order and were lucky enough to get the first KWs in the country. Here’s what we thought…

    KORG MICRO SERIES

If you’re short on space but you still need power, sounds and sampling in abundance, look no further than the micro series from Korg…

There are plenty of people out there who’ll tell you that ‘size isn’t everything’ and ‘small is beautiful’ and these two innocent phrases translate perfectly to Korg’s ‘micro’ products. Here’s a quick rundown of the Korg instruments that have taken a leaf out of Napoleon’s book…

  • MOOG SLIM PHATTY

Posted on March 10, 2011 by Joe Stachowiak

Hot on the heels of the Voyager XL comes an offering at the other end of the scale. It’s the most portable and most affordable Moog synth yet…

The compact Moog Little Phatty keyboard caused something of a stir when it was first released. It offered a lighter array of controls than its big brother, the Voyager, but was still every part a fat-sounding and versatile Moog synth. Moog has since turned its shrinking ray beam on to the Little Phatty itself to bring us the Slim Phatty, an even smaller offering but with exactly the same sound as its bigger brother. All the bass bin-endangering analogue of the Little Phatty but sans keyboard and sans impact on the wallet!

Focusrite’s range of interfaces are rock solid, reliable and sound amazing (they should do with Focusrite mic preamps!). • SE ELECTRONICS VOODOO

Posted on October 14, 2010 by Joe Stachowiak

The Voodoo ribbon microphones from sE are new for 2010 and mark a new era for ribbon mic technology. We test out their black magic claims…

Until now the only ribbon mic in the world to perform across the full 20Hz to 20kHz frequency range was sE’s acclaimed RNR1, designed in collaboration with Rupert Neve. It was achieved using stage-of-the-art, hand-wound, custom-built transformers and a Neve-designed circuitboard to reveal high frequencies usually absent from ribbons. These new Voodoos, however, achieve full frequency response using a new mechanical device (patent pending), designed by Siwei Zou, the company CEO.

Posted on October 13, 2010 by Joe Stachowiak

We find out if the newly launched GSR series of PA speakers from M-Audio can live up to the GSR motto: “Serious sound, roadworthy design”…

Our live sound guys are always keen to get all the newest PA gear into the absolutemusic showroom, and there is none newer than M-Audio’s GSR series.
