  • SE ELECTRONICS VOODOO

Posted on October 14, 2010 by Joe Stachowiak

The Voodoo ribbon microphones from sE are new for 2010 and mark a new era for ribbon mic technology. We test out their black magic claims…

Until now the only ribbon mic in the world to perform across the full 20Hz to 20kHz frequency range was sE’s acclaimed RNR1, designed in collaboration with Rupert Neve. It was achieved using stage-of-the-art, hand-wound, custom-built transformers and a Neve-designed circuitboard to reveal high frequencies usually absent from ribbons. These new Voodoos, however, achieve full frequency response using a new mechanical device (patent pending), designed by Siwei Zou, the company CEO.

  • VOX PREVIEW

Posted on October 14, 2010 by Joe Stachowiak

    Vox in miniature

Vox’s latest releases may be small in stature but, like the Amplugs, they all certainly pack a big punch in the sound and looks departments…

The recent flurry of releases from the classic British amp brand has made us wonder whether we’ve stumbled into the music industry’s equivalent of Gulliver in Lilliput. Not only has the Amplug family taken on a couple of new members, but there’s also a new mini guitar amp in the shape of the Vox AC1 RhythmVox, the tiny MINI3 modelling amp in three colours, a smaller but just as beefy Night Train all-valve amp head and a miniature cab to go with it, namely the V110NT. Time to get out the magnifying glass and get down with the little people…

Our live sound guys are always keen to get all the newest PA gear into the absolutemusic showroom, and there is none newer than M-Audio’s GSR series. • MXR - THE PEDAL PEOPLE!

Posted on October 13, 2010 by Joe Stachowiak

    All about MXR

Favoured by many a guitar legend in the 1970s and 80s, MXR pedals are now making a comeback with Signature models and reissued classics…

Here in the absolutemusic guitar department, we’ve long been big fans of the MXR range of pedals. Although we don’t have enough room to demo the whole range of MXR stompboxes past and present, we have enough on show for customers to appreciate how good and how much fun they are, and to share our love for these compact, sometimes quirky pedals.

  • THE WALDORF BLOFELD SYNTH MODULE

Posted on October 11, 2010 by Joe Stachowiak

This review kindly written by Tony Long. You can read more reviews like this, along with Tony's productions at his personal site -> Tony Long Music

    INTRODUCTION TO THE WALDORF BLOFELD

Despite its small size and price the Waldorf Blofeld synthesizer module, I am told has an extremely powerful synth engine. The German powerhouse company Waldorf sadly folded in 2004, perhaps now they are back they are ready to "take over the world" with their supervillan three-oscillator synth which has undergone a few OS updates and bug fixes since its release in 2008.
