The Ludwig USA Classic Maple Drum Kit recreates, with meticulous detail, the distinctive sound that was the standard for popular music throughout the 20th Century. The 3-ply shell was unveiled in 1923 and evolved into a sound and captured and inspired generations of drummers. The Classic Maple incorporates many of the same features and manufacturing techniques used during this era and couples them with new, state-of-the-art features and techniques to create new looks, sizes and styles but with the same, timeless sound that defined a century.
The shells of the Classic Maple are made of choice cuts of hand-selected North American hardwoods. Warmth and resonance is created by a core ply of premium Poplar. This is cross-laminated with inner and outer plies of Maple for power and clarity. This classic, proven Ludwig shell design is then augmented with 1/4 inch single-ply Maple reinforcement hoops for strength and durability. The shells also feature rounded classic-cut bearing edges for the thundering lows and pronounced articulation that the Ludwig name is known for.
The shells of the Classic Maple are finished in a Silver Sparkle Wrap-Tite finish. The new adhesion process provides a permanent bond between the shell and finish. The finishes on the Classic Maple Series have been tested to withstand warping and separation at temperatures over 200 degrees.
