MACKIE SRM450V2 – INTRODUCTION

Mackie speakers have been around for quite a few years now and I have been in a few bands that have used SRM (Sound Reinforcement Monitors) speakers and I must say that I have always thought they do a very professional job, are reliable with a great build quality and sound great. However, Mackie then decided to re-design them and so they now have a version 2 range of SRM speakers on the market! I just had to find out more…

MACKIE THUMP TH-15A REVIEW

MACKIE THUMP TH-15A – INTRODUCTION

If you are in a small, local band, you will be very familiar with the lugging around of heavy gear; upstairs, through fire-doors, down narrow corridors… in fact, quite often through an assault course of obstacles until you reach the stage or area where you are to setup your gear. With heavy back-straining PA speakers this can often be a very painful experience and quite frankly it is not what you really want to do before performing for a couple of hours. It has therefore been a challenge for speaker manufactures to create a very powerful speaker with an in-built amplifier in a lightweight package, especially as more often than not these cabinets need a vast frequency range to cope with anything from deep Synth basses to crisp sizzling hi-hats and therefore must have a 15″ bass-pounding woofer as well as a high-frequency compression driver!

SSL NUCLEUS REVIEW

Solid State Logic (SSL)… a name renowned in the music production world for manufacturing some seriously tasty professional mixing desks! Honestly, if you have never heard of this company before, their products really are something to get very excited about, having found homes in numerous top-end professional studios across the world. Their latest offering, the Nucleus, is a DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) controller and audio interface and despite still costing over three grand, it is most definitely a significant step towards allowing the home user to incorporate an SSL product into their set-up. But what exactly makes this product so special? Does it warrant its price tag? How does it stand up to the Mackie Control Universal Pro? These are all things that I am going to investigate in this review, so stay tuned…

MACKIE PROFX12 REVIEW

Well, I’ve brought you the Mackie ProFX8 review, so I thought I may as well let you know about the ProFX12 as well! Yes, I know they are both very similar… but the ProFX12 does offer a little more flexibility compared to the ProFX8, so I thought it was worth dedicating an extra blog post to…

MACKIE ONYX BLACKJACK REVIEW

Remember those little black liquorice flavoured chewy sweets that used to be available for a penny from your local corner shop? They were the ones you used to buy as a kid as a last resort if all the Fruit Salads and Apple flavoured ones had run out, and they turned your tongue, teeth and gums a dark black/purple colour so your mum could always tell that you had blown your pocket money on junk yet again! They were called Blackjacks as well, and as far as I’m aware they still make them… although of course their price has now risen, and they don’t feature that little sweetie-man cartoon on the paper! Well, yeah, not too sure where I was going with that… just went into reminisce mode and started writing… never a good idea! But I guess you’re more interested in learning about the Mackie Onyx Blackjack rather than retro sweets? So that’s what I’ll fill you in on… although if anyone else wants to join my nostalgic look back at sugary treats from the past, feel free to post your suggestions as a comment at the bottom of this blog (anyone for Nerds, Runts or Opal Fruits? Or this advert….)
